The Longest YardA Review by Daniel Once again I've learned that you can't always listen to what the critics and reviews say about a movie (though hopefully you can trust this one ;-)). All of the reviews I read gave The Longest Yard poor, poor, ratings, like 1 out of 5 stars. And as often happens, the reviews I read were dead wrong. Sure, maybe The Longest Yard won't be a big Academy Award winner, but it still deserves at least 3 out of 5 stars in my opinion. Staring Adam Sandler as "Paul 'Wrecking' Crewe", The Longest Yard is about Paul who is an ex pro football player who's career went sour after he was accused of shaving points of a football game. About 6 years later Paul is sent to prison for driving under the influence. Ironically, his stay in prison is possibly the best time of his life as Paul forms true friendships and learns the value of honesty and fairness and attempts to help a group of fellow inmates defeat the prison guards at a game of football. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. There weren't really any cheesy moments that I can recall, which is always a good thing, and the acting and story line was great. The death of one of the prisoners even had a nice emotional touch to it. The film's soundtrack, mainly featuring Nelly, also went well with the film. I'd recommend this film to anyone 13 and up. Rating: 3 Stars |
