Barry Trotter and the Unauthorized ParodyA Review by Ana Summary+Review: This book is a parody of Harry Potter, as you can tell by the title. Please note that a parody does not plagiarize a book, but simply makes fun of it so that readers have a laugh. A parody is protected by copyright, so chances, are, J.K. Rowling will not sue the author, although I do own a series of plagiarized Harry Potter books in Russian (I read them) and J.K. Rowling sued him. But anyway, back to the topic: if you want a laugh, go ahead and read this book, if you're overprotective of Harry Potter, you'll end up sending an angry letter to the author (in fact, if you buy the book, there's a check all that apply one in the back). So, this parody is based on the publicity of the books, not what happens in the books themselves. See, it's not a parody of Harry's adventures. It's about how J.G.Rollings (parodied J.K.Rowling) writes a story about a real person named Barry Trotter but she exaggerates, and so Barry, who attends Hogwash School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, has packs of fans following him. Then, a movie is about to come out, and Barry has to stop it, or Hogwash will close, and that's really bad, because the Barry gets paid for being at Hogwash, since then people apply to go there. It all ends in a confusing way, but the book itself is pretty good. It's just so different, though. It laughs at everything: at Harry, at J.K.Rowling, at strict contracts, it kinda laughs at the world. And he does go over the line a bit-Barry's best friend Lon used to play Quidditch, but he got a bludger (they're tiny in the book) lodged in his brain, so the nurse put dog brains in and now Lon has a hole in his head, and he's stupid. Ermine (Hermione) meanwhile, teaches kids at a school in a Hogsmeade like place. On the other hand, this is about the only parody I've seen, and if you want to look at Harry Potter from a whole different point of view, this is the book to read. Author: Michael Gerber
