One Flew Over the Cuckoo's NestA Review by Daniel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is one of my favorite books of all time. I was required to read it for a book project in 11th grade and I am certainly glad I got the chance to read this novel. The main character's name is McMurphy and the story is about his stay in a mental institute. McMurphy decides to feign mental illness and go to an asylum rather than a work farm. McMurphy meets a lot of interesting people at the asylum each of who have their own personalities and problems. Throughout the novel it is McMurphy's goal to unite the rest of the asylum patients and to give them confidence in themselves and courage to revolt against the oppressive staff that runs the asylum. It is a very intricate and moving story with many surprises, humor, and even action. Concluded with an emotional ending, this novel shows the power of writing and it's powerful influence. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has also been adapted into a movie version staring Jack Nicholson. Age Group: This book would not normally be considered appropriate for younger children. It does contain references to adult content, suicide, and some other violence. I recommend this to readers 14 years of age or older. Author: Ken Kesey
