Harry and Cho

Are they done for good?

    First: In my last article (Ron and Hermione) I said that you could mail me several places. Ehm… unfortunately, I… er… forgot to put in my mail (embarrassed). So if you had something to say about my last article, please mail me at rosa_meg@hotmail.com.

    "The Charmed One" posted a thread on the TWWN Forum and wanted me to write about Ron-Hermione-Viktor and Harry & Cho. Since I just did Ron-Hermione, I'm going to leave Viktor "out of it" for a while. So today, it's gonna be Harry and Cho… Well… As we all know they had something going on in OotP. Now, what we don't know is if Harry is "through" with her or not. Today I'm looking at what went wrong, and if they will get back together.

    Harry's romance with Cho didn't last as long as I wanted it to. At least, that's what I would have said if someone told me that they got together, but broke up in the fifth book, before I read it. In GoF I was secretly (and unwillingly) a bit glad that Cedric died (mind you; just a little). Of course, that was before I saw what big impact this had on Harry's mood and behaviour in OotP. But then, finally, something good came out of it; Harry and Cho, under the mistletoe… The scene had it all: Tears, joy, nargles, kisses.. Ahh…The joys of being a teenager ;) I was so HAPPY!!! But as the good godmother in Disney's Cinderella said: "But not even dreams last forever". And all of my dreams fell down at the first date. First, neither of them knew what to talk about, then Harry said: "Er… listen, d'you want to come with me to the Three Broomsticks at lunchtime? I'm meeting Hermione Granger there". OMG!!! When he said this I wanted to use a time turner, tell him to rephrase that at once, go back to real time and read on happily!!! Now, I've been participating in a few HP discussions on the web, and most of the people I've argued with thinks that Cho is completely overreacting about this. "It's just Hermione!" many of them says. And they're right, It is just Hermione. But Cho doesn't know that. Cho doesn't know anything about Harry and Hermione's relationship. Let's look at it from her point of view: Cho hears that Harry is going to see Hermione in the Three Broomsticks. The same Hermione he hangs around basically all the time. The same Hermione whom Rita Skeeter wrote a long article about in GoF. Sounds a bit suspicious to me! I think it was this one comment of Harry's that sent the relationship downhill. It messed up the entire date by creating the bad mood. And the date messed up the relationship, by creating bad and angry feelings. Now don't all of you go mad and hate me, cause I'm not saying it was all Harry's fault! The fact that Cho always wanted to talk about Cedric, made Harry uncomfortable and that made him "drift away". Harry didn't know how Cho felt (before Hermione told him), but Cho also wanted him to figure it out on his own. After this horrible start of a relationship, Harry did the Quibbler interview and things cooled down… Some little, unimportant things happened, before the "Marietta tragedy". And when Cho desperately tries to explain and apologize for her friend, Harry is… Well… Rude. He completely disregards the fact that Marietta is Cho's friend. Cho gets mad and walks away. This is when I realized that the relationship was going nowhere- So; Where now?

    "Hey, Harry," said Ron softly, nodding towards the glass window on to the corridor. Harry looked around. Cho was passing, accompanied by Marietta Edgecombe, who was wearing a balaclava. His and Cho's eyes met for a moment. Cho blushed and kept walking. "What's -er- going on with you and her, anyway?" Ron asked quietly. "Nothing," said Harry truthfully. "I -er- heard she's going out with someone else now," said Hermione tentatively. Harry was surprised to find that this information did not hurt at all. Wanting to impress Cho seemed to belong to a past that was no longer quite connected with him.

    This tells ME that Harry is over her. However, my good friend Stine once said that this proves nothing. She agrees that they won't get together again, but she said something like: "Harry also felt that everything belonged to a past that was no longer connected to him. That his life was divided into to parts: The one that had Sirius in it, and the one that didn't" She does have a good point actually. Harry did feel something like that, but I still think that this proves that Harry doesn't feel for Cho the way he used to. I also would like to add that he didn't feel sad or angry when Ginny said that Cho was going out with Michael Corner.     JK Rowling: That's life, I'm afraid. They were never going to be happy, it was better that it ended early!

    That pretty much sets the record straight right?

    The situation right know. Harry has, as Hermione said, liked Cho for ages. When he saw her, he got a tingling sensation in his stomach. When he talked to her, he didn't know what to say; He was clearly in love with her. In my opinion was is the key word here. I don't think they will get together again I'm afraid. I was a big fan of this relationship, but once they started dating, I saw that it would never work, and I was OK with that… OK- Not happy, not sad- Just OK with it. Cho turned out to be someone who needed more than Harry could give her at the moment. I also think that it is a good thing that Harry is not in love with anyone right now. He has enough to deal with, and does not need a girl to figure out on top of everything! Of course, there's probably going to be a new girl in the picture now that Cho is gone, but that is another article… So- Will Harry and Cho get back together? Definitely not!!!
